Sydney Night Out
by Admin on Jun.12, 2009, under ART, FOOD, MUSIC, TRAVEL
Arrived in Sydney and finally got to get out and really take a look around. Went to the obvious spots and took photos. As if people weren’t asking enough questions about us, we bought dinner jackets and went to the symphony in the famed opera house. A very powerful performance from their solo violinist.
Capped it off at a bistro overlooking the Sydney Harbor Bridge.
Melbourne Visitors

Lights at the Melbourne visitor center. Was listening to Radiohead’s “How I made My Millions” while I walked by this, so I thought, why not?

This is why I’m going to see Tool, no matter what, on their upcoming tour. I don’t care where it is. They say that a cover can never be as good as the original, but Maynard’s voice + the digital effects used here totally blow Led Zeppelin out of the water. Around 6:20 this song becomes transcendentally good.

During any given week I listen to “Videotape” by Radiohead 15-20 times. It’s one of the most simple and beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. They kick in a drum toward the end and you picture someone saying goodbye to the pattern of a Polaroid being shaken, with every shake exposing a new photo of a different memory.
Anyway, to the point. I’d been meaning to read up on who Mephistopheles was because of the lyrics.
“When Mephistopheles is just beneath
And he’s reaching up to grab me”
I knew he was a demon of some sort, but it turns out he’s an incarnation of the Devil in the old Johann Faust stories. I read an article a day on Wikipedia, and it usually takes me about an hour because I get sidetracked by links in the articles to things I don’t know about. Today’s path led me to Renaissance Magic, or the conversion from old magic to what we call science (alchemy to chemistry, the development of “germ theory” in medicine). Enter Leonardo DaVinci. So then I spent awhile reading about him.
That’s it. And it all started with…

This is the jacket that Justin Timberlake wore in his new video with Ciara, and I need it. Not a bad song either.

Finally started really listening to this guy after his spot on Kanye’s new. If you don’t have ‘A Kid Named Cudi’, pick that up.
One of my favorites:
